We know that knowledge has no end. As you  go more deep and you find yourself to posses lesser knowledge regarding that subject. We do believe in sharing knowledge to other people so that they may benefit from it and in return we also learn how to be more presentable. We will share some of the basics of Building services and then later on try to go more complex as per demand of the visitors to this site.

We will talk more of Mechanical services provided to the Building. But building also needs other services such as Electrical& Electronic services, Plumbing services, Public Health services. In short we call all these services as MEP services OR Building services. In general it relates to services given to building to perform as a living whole.

HVAC SERVICES:

The time in history, in which we are living is the best in entire Human written History. From beginning of time Human kind has strive to better living conditions.  We can find these in Archaeological findings and other pictographs showing us the stages of development of Human society. The comfort criteria was always there as a mark of progress. Earlier men used cold water and natural ice to cool their rooms, then later on they came to store ice and cold water for a longer time and then the age of modern air conditioning system was invented. So, now as the Technological world is at its zenith, the infra structure of cities, Building and Mega structure flows in a direction of  Energy conservation by modelling MEP services such that it makes more use of the natural resources with minimum pollution giving maximum benifits to HUman csociety. So, to meet this demand air conditioning and refrigeration  industry has advanced through the development stages to the full range of different types of units to suit the building cooling and heating requirement. We can see the following different modern Air- conditioning Units to select from.  

The development of modern air conditioning system goes to a well know man by the name Willis Carrier. In 1902, a 25-year-old engineer from New York invented the first modern air-conditioning system. The mechanical unit sent air through water-cooled coils to cool the space. How ever the machine was not aimed for human comfort, however; it was designed to control humidity in the printing plant in Buffalo, New York, where he worked. Interestingly, In 1906, Stuart W. Cramer of Charlotte was exploring ways to add moisture to the air in his textile mill. Cramer coined the term “air conditioning”, using it in a patent claim as an analogue to “water conditioning” a well-known method for making textiles easier to process.

The first private home to have air conditioning system was built in Minneapolis, U.S. in 1914, owned by Charles Gates. David St. Pierre DuBose (1898-1994) designed a network of duct work and vent system for his home in Meadowmont, This building is believed to be one of the first private homes in the United States equipped for central air conditioning system. In 1945, Robert Sherman, Massachusetts invented a portable, window air conditioner that cooled, heated, humidified, dehumidified, and filtered the air.

Window Air Conditioners.

Window Air Conditioners comes in the range of 1.0 Ton to 2.0 Ton. It comes with Heat and cool or cool only options. Its robust and can be installed at any wall with opening little bigger than the frame size of the air conditioner. and can be placed at 1.8 meter height from finish floor level. At the condenser end ( Back end area) there should be 50 cm free area at left and right side, and 100 cm right at the back.Now a days it comes with remote controller. and if you have smart phone you can always download app of that model in your smart phone and control it remotely. The draw back is that its noisy and not aesthetic pleasing.

Split Air Conditioner

Split Air Conditioners comes in the range of 1.5 Ton to 3.0 Ton. It also comes with Heat and cool or cool only options. As the name suggests, the evaporator( Fan and Evaporator coil) and condenser(Compressor and Condenser) sides are separated . They are connected by copper pipes. As the Condenser side is usually placed out side, there is no noise problem. The evaporators are of two types i.e. Floor standing and wall hung type. Please see the figure. It comes with remote controller. and if you have smart phone you can always download app of that model in your smart phone and control it remotely. The draw back is that it is costly compared to Window Air conditioner.

Cassette type Air Conditioner

Free standing Air Conditioners comes range is from 1.5 Ton to 3.5 Ton OR 2.0 H.P. 3.0 H.P. or 5.0 H.P. It also comes with Heat and cool or cool only options. In this also evaporator( Fan and Evaporator coil) and condenser(Compressor and Condenser) sides are separated . The evaporator is fixed between false ceiling and concrete ceiling. It comes with remote controller. and if you have smart phone you can always download app of that model in your smart phone and control it remotely.

The second figure shows you the number of options one has to condition the room. With one condensing unit you can connect multi indoor cooling units individually.

Free Standing Air Conditioner

Free standing Air Conditioners comes range is from 4.0 Ton to 6.0 Ton. It also comes with Heat and cool or cool only options. In this evaporator( Fan and Evaporator coil) and condenser(Compressor and Condenser) sides are separated . It is same as split air conditioners except with higher tonnage. The evaporators is Floor standing type. Please see the figure. It comes with remote controller. and if you have smart phone you can always download app of that model in your smart phone and control it remotely. The draw back is that it is costly compared to Window Air conditioner.

Ducted Split System

Ducted Air conditioning system capacity ranges from 1.0 Ton to 6.0 Ton. It is a low cost installation system compared to Central Air conditioning system installation, with over all feel of Central air conditioning system comforts. Ducted A/C has an internal fan coil unit installed in the roof space of the home. From this central location, a series of ducts run to as many rooms in the house as it fulfills the Tonnage and cfm (cubic foot minute) of the installed Unit. From these ducts, air flows to individual room and diffused in to the room by air diffusers. This cools or heat the rooms as per occupancy demand. This system is good for Villas and homes with a low budget.

Package Unit System

Standard Packge Air conditioning system capacity ranges from 3.0 Ton, 1200 cfm To 30.0 Ton, 12000 cfm. But the capacity can be as high as 105 TR, 40,000 cfm, custom made. One can visualize this unit as a Very big Window Air Conditioner except that it cools the room by using Ducts and Diffusers. Installation of these system are comparatively cheaper than Central Air conditioning system, with over all comfort feelings of Central air conditioning system. From this Package Unit Central duct run to as many rooms in the house as it fulfills the Tonnage and cfm (cubic foot minute) of the installed Unit. Cool air from the main duct is passed to branch ducts which shoots out from the main duct to different rooms to meet the heat load requirement of that room and diffusing the air into the room by air diffusers, nicely laid out in the false ceiling. This cools or heats the rooms as per occupancy demand. This system is good for Villas, Offices and Super Markets of small to medium size. It is also used to cool ware House.

AHU – DIRECT EXPANSION TYPE

Air Handling Unit Direct Expansion type( It means it uses Refrigerants which is directly expanded by capilary or expansion Valve to get the net refrigerant effect) capacity ranges from 6.0 Ton, 2400 cfm To 30.0 Ton, 12000 cfm. This AHU-DX type is used by adjoining air cooled Condensing Unit of 1.15 (min) times its capacity . One can visualize this unit as a Very big Split Air Conditioner. From AHU-DX Unit Main duct and branch ducts runs to as many rooms in the building as it fulfills the Tonnage and cfm (cubic foot minute) of the installed Unit. Cool air from the main duct passes to branch ducts which shoots out from the main duct to different rooms to meet the heat load requirement of that room and diffusing the air into the room by air diffusers, nicely laid out in the false ceiling. This cools or heats the rooms as per occupancy demand. This system is good for Hospitals, Laboratories, CSSD area of the Hospitals etc.


VRV / VRF Air Conditioner

 VRV stands for variable refrigerant volume and VRF stands for variable Refrigerant Flow. They mean the same but as VRV is copy righted by Diakin Aicondioner Company but a similar system made by Fujitsu is a VRF system. This system came in existence in 1982 by Diakin Industries. This system has revolutionized the air-conditioning industry as it shows the most energy saving benefits and a number of different types of configuration as per the building air conditioning demands. One out door unit can handle 64 indoor units and this is a land mark achievement in the history of air conditioning industry.

Basically, The VRV system is a multi-split type air conditioning system for residential and commercial buildings that uses variable refrigerant flow control to provide buildings with the ability to maintain individual zone control in each room and floor of a building.
